Cheap plastic but worth 3 bucks July 30, 2010 Bill Zdarko (Fort Myers, FL United States) This product is made of cheap plastic but works very nice to pull the watch pins. If you do not abuse this product, it should last quite some time.
poor quality but adequate for the job July 29, 2010 P. Hartman (Missouri, USA) Having never had to remove links from a watch before, I was not sure what to expect. This tool was shoddy but I was able to get the job done using it.
PROS
- it got the job done
- extremely cheap price
CONS
- tool was not wide enough for the clamp area of my watch, had to remove the vice and do that link by hand
- bits broke very easily
- the vice was wobbly and hard to control - you have to be very careful to not accidentally scratch your watch
- no instructions included, had to get on-line to learn how to use it
This comes with 6 bits that are used to poke out the pins on your band. They are designed to break when you use excessive pressure according to the tutorial site. Well, good it came with six because I went through 3 of them when sizing just one watch band. At that rate I will be able to do one more sizing in the future and then have to throw this thing in the trash.
It was very time consuming and difficult to remove the pins using this tool - I spent close to a hour screwing with this tonight. While I was able to finish the job, next time I need to do this I would seriously consider saving the headache and just taking my watch to a jeweler.
What a waste of money July 22, 2010 MacMaster (Washington, DC) Don't buy this and pay shipping, paper clip will do a better job than this.
Not quite July 19, 2010 B. Davis (Los Alamos, NM) I could have sworn someone said this device worked on an Invicta watch. Considering how large the Invicta bands tend to me (including mine), this is surprising. I measure 7/8" so don't bother with this one if you have a larger band.
SE Link Remover Tool DOES WORK July 9, 2010 Ekim (Indiana) I recently received this tool despite all of the negative reviews written about it. It is sturdy plastic, not flimsy like some of the reviews said. This is not a precision instrument; it is made in China and costs $3.25, but it does work exactly as promised. It is true that it does not come with instructions, but you don't need any. It's pretty simple: lay your watch band in the tool, line up the pin in the tool with the pin in your watch band, turn the handle until the pin in the tool pushes out the pin in the watch band. As you turn the handle, the pin in the tool DOES wobble, so make sure the pins line up as the tool begins to make contact with the pin in the watch band. You will need a good light as the pins are very small and hard to see. A magnifier would help, but I was able to change two watch bands without one. Just remember to put your watch band in the tray properly. My watch had arrows in the inside to illustrate which way the pins should be pushed out. I don't know why others had such bad experiences with this. Take your time, and it will work fine. Changing one watch band more than pays for the price of the tool. It also comes with extra pins (for the tool, not your watch bands), an indication that the manufacturer knows that pins will break occasionally. I'm glad I bought this, and I recommend it to others.
